Development

Leading People

Leadership - the capacity for delivering effective change, growth and development - is fundamental to organisations and their future survival. However, this needs to co-exist with management, which focuses on maintaining the status quo, control and improving efficiency.

Our experience includes the design and delivery of programmes aiming to establish a leadership culture in both manufacturing and service organisations.

Coaching People

There are many different techniques of coaching people - rather than focus on the academic models we thought some examples would be more informative:-

One current client has been with their organisation for about 15 years in a number of capacities. This talented individual is rather disorganised, operates by the seat of their pants and is quick enough to use their experience to persuade and influence others. However, the organisation has grown, becoming more systematic and professional, seeking to plan effectively and increase efficiency. Now the organisation is finding our client's behaviour counter-productive and their creative energy needs to be focussed in a way that helps the individual and their business.

We also work with groups of people. Although the word "team" is widely used, in our experience of organisations most people come together in ways that are fairly loose, constantly changing and with roles that are often ill-defined - more of a working group than a cohesive team. So we use teamwork principles, concepts and models to help people work together more effectively and apply these ideas to the different groups in which they operate.

A group we recently worked with are managers of a manufacturing organisation and perceived by others to be a team. However, because of the way things have happened over the years this group have never really worked together or got to know what each other does. Although their length of service varies from 4 to 30 years they had never met as a team before but had a lot of relationship "baggage". Now they have worked through a number of issues as a group and individuals, improved understanding of each other and how together they can add value to the business. Membership of the group has also changed, roles have been refined and challenges altered with growth and re-organisation.

Career Management

We plan & design Assessment Centres & other selection process to help our clients identify people with specific potential or those who match a particular profile. This work is carried out in a number of organisations in both the Public & Private sectors.

We also undertake specific assignments to create long-term development plans for individuals perceived as capable of performing at the most senior level in their organisation. These plans, usually covering 3 to 5 years, recommend the most cost-effective process for learning and applying the necessary skills/capabilities in the required breadth and depth to benefit the individual and the organisation.

Our experience also includes the design and implementation of career development and succession management processes in various organisations.

Performance Mangement

The overall aim of development is to improve performance of the individual and, therefore, the organisation. We have been involved in various appraisal, 360-degree review and coaching processes, as recipients, managers and consultants so will be well placed to support an organisation's aims and needs in this area.
